Short Info

As of the start of 2012, you will be able to find a large number of European youth safety laws on the new Protection of Minors site.
You can search by country to view key questions and answers regarding the statutory rules for the protection of minors in any given country or you can search by category to compare the rules in effect in all of the listed countries.

The rules for all countries are not complete and we cannot guarantee that this information is accurate and up-to-date. We will endeavor to keep the site up-to-date, but we are dependent on cooperation from representatives of the various countries. We try to update the information every two years.

If you are an expert on statutory rules for the protection of minors in your country, we would be pleased if you would take an active part in updating the site and report any changes to us. Please contact us.

History
The idea for this site emerged through a BAJ project designed to make it easier for parents and educators to find out about rules for the protection of minors abroad. Especially in the case of teenagers traveling abroad, timely knowledge of national laws with respect to curfew times, smoking, alcohol, etc. could help avoid many conflicts and misunderstandings in advance.

Thus far, the results have been published on BAJ's European Youth Safety Atlas site. With this site, we are going a step further, making it easier for journalists and child safety advocates to quickly compare the laws in various countries.
